How to write how-to articles

Second draft

Next, fill in brief notes under each heading:

Knives
– 5 knives total
– chef’s knife

Onions
– peel first

Potatoes

Include only what’s necessary. Don’t include extra details, trivia, and whatnot, in order to add interest. The essential info and steps are all you need.

Do a first pass as fast as you can write it out. Read it over. Put it down and come back to it. Reorder, add, remove, to make it complete.

Take plenty of breaks to let new ideas bubble up. If you’re writing more than one course, you can have several second drafts going at once, and work on whichever one you feel like.

When you can’t easily think of any more adjustments, you’ll know it.

That’s a second draft, done.
